Tip - 7/26/2005 - Is a newsletter one of the "touches" of your nursing business?
LeaRae Keyes, RN

You may have heard that it takes 7 - 10 "touches" to gain a new customer. These touches can be telephone calls, notes, appointments, letters, postcards, or some other way of getting your and your nursing business' name or presence in front of your potential customer. A newsletter can serve you well as one of these touches.

In planning a newsletter for your nursing business, identify the standard categories of information you want to include in each issue. This will make the job of creating your newsletter an easier task. Some categories you could consider include

  • New, breaking information
  • Success stories
  • Recommended resources
  • Q & A section
  • Appropriate pictures to add interest
  • Quiz
  • "How to" section
  • Testimonials
  • Tips
  • Editorial
  • Guest Articles
  • Interviews
  • Upcoming Events

Once you determine the categories, check them off as you complete them for the next issue. This will allow you to construct your newsletter in pieces. This will make it something you can do with small amounts of time instead of trying to construct the entire newsletter in one session.
