Trick or Treat?
October 31 is Halloween in the United States. This is the night when children get dressed up in costumes and go knocking on their neighbors' doors, yelling "Trick or Treat?" They are generally rewarded with some type of candy to put in their bag. They gleefully run to the next house and the routine is repeated. What if when they get to the next house the house is dark and no one answers the door? Do they take it personally? Do they wonder what the person's motive was for not being home and not being there to give them candy? Do they quit and go home because at one house they did not get candy? No, they don't do any of these things if they were like me when I was growing up! Kids don't waste time thinking about why someone wasn't home to give them candy because time is important. The idea is to get as much candy as you can before you are too tired or it is too late to keep on going. So you race to the next house, and then the next, and so on. Selling your services is a lot like "Trick or Treat". You need to keep on going and not take it personally, or lose momentum when someone chooses not to buy. Let the kid in you do your selling and marketing! It can be a wonderful adventure!
