Does your marketing material need a makeover?

I hear about home makeovers, facial makeovers, wardrobe makeovers, which made me think about marketing material makeovers. Is your marketing material getting old and stale? Is it outdated? Does it say what you want? Is it all consistent?

If your sales have slowed down or you think it is time for you to increase your sales take an objective look at your marketing materials.

Review your materials or better yet, get together with a few friends or peers and take a look at your materials. Use this scorecard to determine if and where you need to revise your material:

___ Does your material tell your prospective customer exactly how they will benefit by using your services?

___ Does your material clearly differentiate you from your customers? Can they quickly tell what they would get from you that they wouldn't get from anyone else?

___ Does your material help them know, like and trust you? Does your personality come through in your marketing material? This is an area that I have been working on. I tend to be quite formal in my writing and I am working on letting more of my personality and style show.

___ Is your material persuasive and customer focused? Does your material show that it is about them and not about you? You're not still telling your potential customers about all the services you offer, your mission statement, and your company history are you?

___ Do you state the precise action you want your prospective client to take and when you want them to take that action? Don't make this action too big or they won't take it. It is unlikely they will pick up the phone and request your services after reading your marketing material. However, they may sign up for your newsletter if they think there is value in reading it. They might also return a postcard for an informational article on a topic of interest to them. They might contact you to ask for a lunch time presentation on a hot topic of interest to them at this particular time. 

If you answered "no" to even one of these questions you need a marketing makeover NOW.
