Don't try to be something you're not
I frequently see companies trying to be something they are not. One example is a small company trying to look bigger than they really are because they think this will bring them more business. I think being authentic is what will bring a small business more customers and more loyal customers. I have been hearing more and more about the importance of being authentic. A quote from Dr. Seuss reads: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter dont mind." In her blog, Victoria Player states "The response I've had...reinforces for me the importance of being authentic within your marketing and how when you do, it instantly makes you stand head and shoulders above and beyond your competitors." Being personal and writing in the first person does not detract from your message. It actually adds to it by making it more believable and helping people feel closer to you. Since people buy from people they know, like and trust, what do you think would enhance this occurring? Do you think it would work best to speak and write in the first person or the third person? Do you think it would work best to be a small one person company or to write and speak as if there are multiple people involved in your business? I recently hired a company to do some work. After meeting with the owner and closing the sale, the project was given to an associate. I had not expected this to occur and I would have preferred to work with the owner on the project. This will likely affect how eager I am to bring them in on future projects. Action steps
