You may find it depressing to look for a job when there are very few job openings. A recession is a great time to start a business that you can finance yourself and doesn't require much start-up capital. When you have limited capital it forces you to be creative and to watch expenses, cash flow, and budgets very closely. These are important activities to learn and use throughout the life of your business. If you business idea is not for a business that will thrive in a recession, use this time to develop your plan so you will be ready to get a jump start on other business that will be launched when we come out of this recession. If your business idea will thrive in a recession you need to also determine if it can succeed in an economic boom. You don't want to put all the time and effort into building a business that will fail as soon as the recession passes. Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and Disney all started during
